The vision of the skate park won't be possible without Grindline. Grindline Skateparks Inc. is THE foremost skatepark builder in the world, having designed and constructed over 350 large and small parks. They are based in Seattle, founded on DIY principles, and are known for high-quality "skater-built" poured concrete parks that can withstand the climate of the Pacific Northwest.

Where?

The outlined areas in each image represent the area that we want the skatepark to cover (Twisp Park locations show both 7,500 and 10,000 sq-ft, all the rest show 10,000 sq-ft).

Private land on Hwy-20 immediately across from Idle-A-While Motel

Private Land Option:

(this land is commercially zoned)

PROS:

  1. Great visibility

  2. Good pedestrian access and walkability to other amenities

  3. Plenty of room for skatepark, parking lot, and bathrooms

  4. Few competing interests for recreational use

  5. Water/ sewer already available on-site

  6. Potential to provide parking area for new Town-owned ecological park

  7. Potential parking for Burgar St Halloween

  8. A crosswalk could benefit neighbors by slowing down traffic on the edge of town

  9. High potential for Trango bus stop.

CONS:

  1. Need an interim buyer to purchase the land to then annex to Town of Twisp

  2. Need crosswalk (a DOT process)

  3. Requires additional funding for land acquisition as well as creating parking lot and bathroom infrastructure from scratch

  4. Potential noise impact to neighbors

  5. Residents have identified the lot as being used by wildlife

Twisp Park East adjacent to Wagner Pool

PROS:

  1. Decent visibility

  2. Good pedestrian access and walkability to other amenities and resources

  3. Proximity to other recreation (playground, river, pool, basketball court)

  4. Lots of space and potential for expansion should Wagner Pool be decommissioned

  5. Viewed as less “sacred” side of park

  6. Reinvigorate Twisp Park by creating more recreation opportunity and more presence

CONS:

  1. The same space is being considered for a sand volleyball court, community garden, and other structures

  2. Closer to eroding bank of river (area is slowly shrinking)

  3. More hidden from view of parking lot

  4. Closer to residential properties (noise)

  5. Existing pool structure has drainage features that would need to be altered

Twisp Park West adjacent to the playground

Twisp Park West

PROS:

  1. Good visibility

  2. Good pedestrian access and walkability to other amenities and resources

  3. Shade (no trees would be cut, there is plenty of space already)

  4. Proximity to other recreation (playground, river, pool, basketball court)

  5. Reinvigorate Twisp Park by creating more recreation opportunity and more presence

CONS:

  1. Tighter space, could be crowded

  2. Limited parking in busy Summer season with Pool activity

  3. General noise-increase

  4. Would diminish a green-space that’s well-loved for its tranquility

The Twisp Sports Complex

PROS:

  1. Lots of room to build/ expand

  2. Few to no conflicting interests

  3. Minimal noise conflict with residents and neighborhoods

  4. A bus stop currently exists

  5. Within Town of Twisp’s projected zone of residential expansion

CONS:

  1. No potable water or sewer on site (Town estimates 10 years at least)

  2. Poor pedestrian access and walkability to other amenities/ resources

  3. Poor visibility from population centers and roads
